Lemon Tree

April 29, 2014 § 1 Comment

A lemon from above
Came falling from the sky
A perfect yellow orb
Promptly hit me in the eye

I was gazing overhead
Making friends with clouds
When my peaceful state was ended
With a jolt of something sour

I thought about the odds
Of such a strange occurrence
All the eyes it could have hit
And it chose mine to cause disturbance

But I guess it’s all perspective
It’s not really all about me
For when life throws you lemons
At least it’s not you falling from the tree

My View

March 20, 2014 § Leave a comment

I can’t see very far,
in fact,
I’m almost blind.

But I try to see,
that is, the good.

Am I blind to the reality
of day-by-day-by-day….

Or blind to the bitter
taste of shallow phrase.

I think it’s for the best,
a certain lack of sight,
for the best and most
sparkling views
I see

when I take a sudden breath
awoken from sleep
to eyelids blocking light,
the brightest darkness in the world,
a view that signals life.

how precious time
it slips and slides
never pausing for air
it persists
as steady as running
water beneath a bridge
it rushes so quickly
that when you finally
catch up
to perspective
it’s already gone, and
it’s already passed

Seeing

March 4, 2014 § 2 Comments

Greet each morning
with a joyful heart
and eyes that see
not the crumbling
structures, the imperfect
minds, the shadowed
corners of misgiving,
but that are brave enough
to look at such things
and instead capture
the light, the beauty
the elusive joy that dares
to appear, but only to the eyes
that have the courage
to see it.
